TYLin provided structural engineering services for this new high-end residential building on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The tower portion of this building measures approximately 100 feet in the east-west direction and 40 feet in the north-south direction. It has 30 levels above grade, including setbacks at the upper two floors, and one below-grade.

Starting at the eighth floor, the building cantilevers approximately 10 feet over the adjacent southern property. TYLin resolved this challenge with sloped columns and reinforcing floor slabs at transfer stories, in addition to substantial amounts of steel in the north core wall to resolve tension from overturning due to gravity, with the wall tied directly into the ground with massive rock anchors.

Architecturally exposed arches at the 14th and 30th floors are part of the lateral and gravity systems, stiffening the building and reducing the swaying inherent to structures of this height. There is also a tuned liquid sloshing damper at the roof to help control the acceleration from that swaying that could otherwise cause discomfort for residents at the upper stories. This project has a goal of LEED Silver certification.
