Awash – Kombolcha – Hara Gebaya Railway Project
TYLin orchestrated the design for excavating seven tunnels as part of the Hara Gebaya Railway project across northern and central Ethiopia.
To enhance transportation infrastructure in Ethiopia, the Awash – Kombolcha – Hara Gebeya Railway Project includes 391 kilometers of single-track line. The new railway line will link the cities of Weldia in northern Ethiopia and Awash in the central region of the Ethiopian Rift Valley. Set to start operations in 2026, the project is designed to accommodate 1.9 million passengers and transport 15.2 million tons of freight annually.
TYLin provided detailed designs for excavating seven tunnels using conventional methods (New Austrian tunneling methods). These tunnels feature a range of support structures, from heavy (under an umbrella) to very light (solely shotcrete with local rock bolting).
